Main Speaker:
Peter Nixon

Topic: The Geological History of Tauranga.

‘Almost every day, we see and are familiar with the landforms of the Tauranga area where we live- Mt Maunganui, the Ocean Beaches, Tauranga Harbour, the Kaimai Range, Matakana Island, Pāpāmoa Hills, and so on.

I wonder if you have ever thought about the following questions:

  • How were these features formed?
  • How old are they?
  • What type of rocks are they made up of?
  • Will they always be the same in future?

My talk will aim to answer these questions, and set out a geological history of the Tauranga area in the form of a timeframe. This will help you to understand and appreciate how events in the past have shaped the present-day landscape.

I am an enthusiastic amateur geologist who has lived in Tauranga for the last 25 years. ‘I have an Earth Sciences Degree from London University, have taught Geology in local schools, and taken students and adults on geology field trips in the local area. I have a strong interest in Geological History, fossils and volcanoes.’

Short Speaker:
Natasha Rallia Ram and Sarah Dale

Natasha and Sarah are from real estate and will to speak to us about the decisions many homeowners face, including downsizing, understanding property values and what’s really happening in the Tauranga market.
