Coping with Life's Stressors
from a naturopathic perspective
Stress affects most of us, whether we recognise it or not. Life stressors involve changes in your environment that your central nervous system must adapt to during the daily course of living.
Whether they are positive or negative events; eg new job/baby/house, death or divorce, redundancy, money issues etc; our bodies are required to adapt to these changes. Stress results when pressures or demands in life exceed our coping abilities. Stress can show itself in physical, emotional, or behavioural symptoms.
In this two-evening course, Denise will look at what happens to the body when it is under stress both mentally and physically; including the three phases - 'fight or flight', interpretation, and reaction.
Participants will learn how to tell if they are under
stress and what they can do to help their bodies cope with it. Topics covered
will include discussion around how hormonal changes can affect stress levels;
the natural options that are available for dealing with stress (eg dietary,
exercise, psychological change etc); and how to achieve a life/work balance.

No Easy Options? Being a Writer in New Zealand: Imprints Conference 2010
Keynote Speakers: Emily Perkins, Steve Braunias and Christine Cole Catley
Chaired by Dr Mark Houlahan, University of Waikato
Three renowned New Zealand writers discuss the pros &
cons of being a writer in Aotearoa: Is success possible in our small country
or do we have to compromise what it means to be a New Zealand writer by publishing
abroad? Are the dice loaded unfairly by publishers and booksellers against the
writer who wants to write within a New Zealand culture for New Zealand writers?
Is the market big enough and sufficiently proactive to sustain writers and pay
them fairly for their work? This conference is brought to you in partnership
with Tauranga Writers.
Times Dates
9.30am - 4.30pm Saturday 16 October, 2010
Fee Venue
$65.00
